STUDY:
University of Birmingham
An Exploration into the Overlaps in Experiences of Depersonalisation and Body Dysmorphia.
This study is being conducted by Rachael Bowes, Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Birmingham, UK. Supervised by Dr Emma Černis, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology.
Both conditions can cause significant distress and impact upon a person’s quality of life. They both result in having a potentially difficult relationship with yourself and/or your physical body. For these reasons, the team are interested in better understanding the similarities and differences between them. This will be done using interviews with people who indicate in their online survey that they have personal experience of depersonalisation and/or body dysmorphia.
This study will help further the understanding of these conditions, which may inform clinical guidance and intervention.
The research has two parts: an online survey (part 1), with the option of taking part in a follow-up interview (part 2).
As a thank you for your time, participants will have the option to be entered into a prize draw to win a gift voucher for an online shopping retailer such as Love2Shop. Prizes include 1x £100 voucher, 2 x £50 vouchers, 4 x £20 vouchers.
The study has been reviewed by, and has received ethical approval, through the University of Birmingham Research Ethics Committee (Reference: ERN_4282).
